LED Light Installation Guide

How to Install Your LED Car Lights

Good news: most LED upgrades from Zomax Auto Mart are plug-and-play and take less than 20 minutes. No special tools, no mechanic needed. Just follow the steps below for a clean, safe install.

Not sure which type you have? Check your product packaging or the product page — it'll say headlight bulb, fog lamp, DRL kit, or interior/ambient light.

Installing LED Headlight Bulbs

This covers direct replacement LED bulbs for your main headlights (low beam / high beam).

What You'll Need

  • Your new Zomax LED headlight bulb
  • Clean gloves (to avoid touching the bulb with bare hands)
  • A flathead screwdriver (in some cases)

Steps

  1. Turn off your car and let the engine cool if it was running.
  2. Open the bonnet and locate the headlight assembly from the back.
  3. Disconnect the power connector from the existing bulb by pressing the clip and pulling it out.
  4. Remove the old bulb by turning it anti-clockwise and pulling it out.
  5. Insert the new LED bulb into the housing and turn clockwise to lock it in place.
  6. Reconnect the power connector until it clicks.
  7. Test the light before closing the bonnet. Check both low and high beam.
  8. Repeat for the other side.

Tip: If your car shows a "bulb error" warning after installation, you may need a CANBUS error canceller. Contact us and we'll advise.

Installing LED Fog Lamp Bulbs

  1. Turn off the car and locate the fog lamp housing (usually at the front bumper).
  2. Access the bulb from behind the bumper or through the wheel arch liner — depending on your car model.
  3. Disconnect the connector, remove the old bulb (anti-clockwise), and insert the new LED bulb.
  4. Reconnect, test, and done.

Installing DRL Kits (Daytime Running Lights)

DRL kits require slightly more work as they involve wiring. We recommend basic mechanical knowledge or a quick visit to a local auto electrician.

  1. Mount the DRL strips in your desired position using the included brackets or adhesive tape.
  2. Route the wiring through to the engine bay, keeping it away from heat sources.
  3. Connect the positive wire to a 12V ignition-switched power source (turns on with the car).
  4. Connect the negative wire to a good earth/ground point on the chassis.
  5. Test before finalising all cable ties and covers.

Tip: Most DRL kits include a detailed wiring diagram in the box. Follow it step by step.

Installing Interior & Ambient LED Lights

  1. Remove the existing interior light cover (usually clips off gently with a flathead screwdriver).
  2. Pull out the old festoon or dome bulb.
  3. Insert the new LED bulb in the same orientation.
  4. Snap the cover back in and test.

For ambient strip lights, clean the surface, peel the adhesive backing, and press firmly into position. Connect to a USB port or 12V socket as specified.

General Tips

  • Always work with the car engine off and keys out
  • Wear clean gloves to avoid grease on bulb contacts
  • If a light flickers after install, check the connector is fully seated
  • LED polarity matters on some vehicles — if a bulb doesn't light up, try rotating it 180 degrees
